WELCOME TO
WHITE ROSE CONCERT BAND
A Yorkshire-based community wind band
White Rose Concert Band comprises an enthusiastic group of amateur musicians who perform a wide range of music regularly throughout the year.
In 2026 the band will be 50!
In the planning pipeline are a Play Day, a residential weekend, and lots more. We are particularly keen to encourage past band members of both Main Band and the Training Band to contact us so we can include them in our plans. So please let us know you are interested by sending us a message either via FaceBook or mailing us via our website, so we can include you in our plans. Look forward to hearing from you.
ABOUT US
White Rose Concert Band is a community music group for adults, which began in 1976.
We practise and perform as two amateur bands - a Training Band (musical director - Steve Heninghem) and a Main Band (musical director - Taneli Clarke).
Our musical directors encourage us to play a wide range of music - anything from pop, jazz, folk and film themes to arrangements of classical music and challenging 20th and 21st century wind band music.
We perform regularly in formal concerts throughout the year and on bandstands during the Summer months. We have also received gold and platinum awards for performances at the annual National Concert Band Festival.

New Members Welcome
There are no formal auditions and qualifications are not required. So get in touch to find out more, and come along to a rehearsal to see if the level is right for you. Approximate standards are above Gr 1 for Training Band, and from minimum standard Gr 4/5 for Main Band.
Main Band Vacancies:
We are currently looking for players of Trumpet/Cornet/ Flugelhorn, Trombone, and Euphonium Brass instruments, and
most Woodwind instruments. However our clarinet, flute and saxophone sections are fully subscribed so any players of these instruments wishing to join will be added to a Waiting List until there is a vacancy, and offered a place in order of application. However if those applicants also play a second instrument they will be invited to join our Training Band on that instrument until there is a vacancy in our Main Band for their principal instrument.
Training Band Vacancies:
We have plenty of space for players of all instruments.
For Training Band we can write simpler parts for those not accustomed to playing in a group setting.
Rehearsals
Both bands rehearse on Thursdays in the Old Methodist Chapel, Strait Lane, Huby, LS17 0EA.
The Training Band rehearses between 18:00 and 19:15 and the Main Band between 19:45 till 21:45.
Annual Membership Fees
Training Band rehearsals £54
Training Band and 1st Half Main Band rehearsals £96
Main Band rehearsals £192
Those who play in both bands only pay for the Main Band.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Taneli Clarke, brass and percussion player, composer and arranger, joined us in January 2020 as Musical Director.
His musical interests are broad - classical, jazz, brass band, experimental and military music. He plans to use this variety to inspire us to play at ever increasing standards, but stresses that rehearsals will be relaxed and fun.
